Single fire service plan

A SINGLE fire service for Scotland is being planned despite warnings the proposed efficiency savings would put lives at risk, it was reported today.

Officials will meet chief officers and fire board conveners tomorrow to outline plans.

The Fire Brigades Union and Association of Chief Fire Officers in Scotland have warned that plans for efficiency savings of up to £59m a year would endanger the public.

n FOUR men were taken to hospital after a small fire broke out at an industrial estate in Livingston.

The fire started in a work bench at Ritchie Precision in Brucefield Industrial Estate, Rutherford Square, shortly before 3.30pm yesterday.
