Slip along to mummy talk

THE phenomenon of ancient mummies preserved in ice will be discussed by author James Holmes Dickson at Blackwell’s bookshop on South Bridge on Thursday.

Mr Holmes Dickson will introduce his book, Ancient Ice Mummies, which describes the discovery of bodies found frozen in glaciers, and the lessons that can be learned from them.

The book includes the story of Otzi the Iceman, who was found high in the Alps. Thought to have lived 5200 years ago, he had been shot in the back with an arrow, and analysis of the contents of his gut and his DNA has revealed many details of his life and history.

The event, which begins at 6.30pm, is free but ticketed. For more information or to reserve a place contact Ann Landmann on 0131-622 8222 or [email protected].
