Starved dog recovering in animal shelter

AN animal charity is appealing for information after a starving dog was found wandering the streets in West Lothian.

A member of the public found the female Staffordshire bull terrier cross near Langrigg Road, Fauldhouse, on Saturday and took her to the police.

Welfare charity the Scottish SPCA was alerted after a police officer saw the dog’s emaciated condition.

Now recovering at the Scottish SPCA’s Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Balerno, the dog, who is tan with a white spot on her chest, has been named Copper.

SSPCA senior inspector Jenny Scott said: “Copper is little more than a bag of bones, her ribs, hips and spine are all clear to see and touch.

“The police officers who cared for her overnight advised me that she appeared to be nervous of men and we have also noticed this while she has been in our care. However, we can’t say whether this is because she hasn’t been around men before or because she has been ill-treated by a man.

“Despite this, she does have a sweet nature. We are keen to find out how she came to be found in such poor condition.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the SSPCA helpline on 03000 999 999.
