Students get hands-on for charity

BEAUTY therapy students from West Lothian College have given supermarket shoppers a touch of glamour and raised vital funds for charity.

Ten students offered nail treatments to customers in Asda Livingston last month as part of a fundraising event for breast cancer charity Tickled Pink.

The girls raised £123 in three hours, with scores of generous shoppers handing over cash for charity in return for treatments.

Following the event, Asda staff added to the total with a series of other events, raising a grand total of £431.86 for the charity.

Mhairi Laughlin, principal of West Lothian College, said: “Not only does an event like this give the students hands-on experience, it also emphasises the importance of helping each other and working in partnership.”
