Swan causes traffic chaos on Edinburgh's Ferry Road

A JUVENILE swan that crash-landed on a busy junction this morning has now been released at Arthur's Seat.

The cygnet suffered a few ruffled feathers when it struck the ground on Ferry Road outside Fettes Park but only its dignity was hurt.

It is thought that the youngster overstayed its welcome and was chased away by its parents.

Animal rescue officer Darren Malcolm of the Scottish SPCA said, “I was called out to help a juvenile swan who had landed at a busy junction on Ferry Road. It’s likely the swan’s parents had chased it away as this is a very common occurrence once a cygnet is old enough to fend for itself.

“Thankfully the swan was uninjured and I was able to release it at Arthur’s Seat a short while later.”

Emily Liddle snapped a picture of the swan as it crossed the road. She said the bird caused a huge traffic jam along Ferry Road: “It was so blasé!”
