Teeny Tosca at Holyrood

THE Scottish Parliament will hit the high notes when it hosts a short opera next month.

Scottish Opera is to bring a mini-version of Tosca to Holyrood. Verdi’s famous opera of love, betrayal and death has been rewritten to fit a 20- minute slot, using illustrations to create a “street theatre” style performance.

Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick said: “The Scottish Parliament has long been a supporter of Scottish art and culture, and I look forward to welcoming this unique version of Tosca. Scotland is proud of its acclaimed opera company and I congratulate them on this novel approach to introducing a new audience to opera.

A Little Bit of . . . Tosca will take place in the parliament’s entrance hall on Thursday, May 17 at 12.30pm. The performance is free.
