That sinking wheeling

FLASH floods in Dunbar made getting about on two wheels tough for one man, as a deluge left up to three feet of standing water in some areas.

Torrential downpours submerged streets in East Lothian yesterday with Dunbar among the worst-affected areas. Fire crews pumped water out of the Belhaven Brewery and the Lammermuir care home was damaged.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received two callouts in relation to flooding in Dunbar shortly after 1pm.

“The first was to a brewery, where we provided support with a pump after heavy rain had caused flooding.

“The second call was to a residential care home after water affected the building. The service liaised with the local council, but water appeared to be receding. Assistance was provided to put some barriers in place to prevent a recurrence.”
