Three children and adult rescued from sea after multi-agency call out off East Lothian shore

Three children and an adult were rescued from the water off Dunbar, in East Lothian, after getting into serious difficulty near Belhaven Bay on Monday evening.

After receiving reports of persons in the water shouting for help, emergency services were called into action at around 6.10pm.

East Lothian coastguards, an RNLI rescue boat, emergency services and a rescue helicopter all raced to the scene, where the quartet required urgent assistance in the water.

Dunbar Coastguard said: “Dunbar Coastguard, North Berwick Coastguard, Senior Coastal Operations Officer S04B, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 199 and RNLI Dunbar Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) were tasked to a report of persons in the water shouting for help at Belhaven Bay.

“Scottish Fire and Rescue Service appliances from Dunbar Fire Station and East Linton Fire Station, several units from East Lothian Police, and a Scottish Ambulance Service land ambulance were also on scene.

“Three children and an adult were recovered from the water by members of the public as the emergency services were arriving on scene and Rescue 199 was stood down en route.

“All services worked together to check over the casualties and they were conveyed to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.”
