Tory backs Mile ad ban

CITY centre councillor Joanna Mowat has insisted that the local authority is right to enforce a strict new ban on advert boards on the Royal Mile.

As the Evening News revealed yesterday, at least one tour company is threatening to move out as it will have to remove its tour board, but the Conservative councillor said it was right that the High Street be protected.

She said: “It is important that the council recognises its duty to preserve and enhance the Royal Mile, which is loved and admired by residents and visitors alike.”
