Total Warrior to return to East Lothian

With 30 punishing obstacles – including fire, ice, electricity, and mountains of mud – crammed into a 12km course, Total Warrior’s Scottish course is carefully designed to satisfy the nation’s growing appetite for extreme physical challenges in extremely muddy conditions.

The beautiful Balgone Estate in East Lothian was the venue for Total Warrior’s first venture north of the border and it proved so popular with the 3,500 participants that the event will return to Balgone, in North Berwick, on the 10th and 11th September this year.

It is anticipated that more than 5,000 participants will flock to North Berwick this year for an experience that epitomises Total Warrior’s strapline of “the greatest courses set in the finest venues”.

Event director, David Gaffney, said: “Balgone Estate is the perfect location for us and provides a stunning backdrop for our unique course. It has hills, water, woods, sea views, and an abundance of mud, and that’s all before we’ve even started building our world-renowned obstacles.

“James Grant-Suttie, who owns and farms the land at Balgone, is an excellent host and we hit it off from the start so we’re really looking forward to working with him and his team again this year. We’ve also had great support from the local community, from businesses in and around North Berwick, and from East Lothian Council, so I hope we can repay that support by building on the success of last year to create an even bigger and better event this autumn.”

Councillor John McMillan, East Lothian Council spokesperson for Economic Development and Tourism, said: “It was great to welcome Total Warrior to East Lothian last year so we’re delighted that it will return in 2016. East Lothian is a great location for all sorts of outdoor activities and the rise in popularity of challenges like this one is something we were very keen to tap into. I hope the participants will keep on coming back to East Lothian to take advantage of all we have to offer the outdoor enthusiast! Events like these help to put East Lothian on the map as Scotland’s leading coastal, leisure and food and drink destination.”

Tracy Lonie, Events & Community Fundraiser at Leuchie House, said: “Total Warrior was a great event for Leuchie House to be involved in last year, particularly with the Balgone Estate right on our doorstep. We entered a team of 15, including eight members of staff and seven of our supporters, who raised a total of £6,000, a brilliant contribution to our work in providing caring respite breaks for people with long term conditions. We’re looking forward to taking part again this year and we’re now recruiting Team Leuchie 2016. If anyone reading this would like to join our team, we’d love to hear from them.”

Total Warrior will once again be working in partnership with the independent running retailer, Run4It, winner of ‘Best UK Customer Service’ and ‘Best UK Independent Retailer’ in the 2015 Running Awards.
