The incident took place around 8.40am on Thursday 16 March in Hyvot Loan, at the junction with Hyvot Mill Drive in the Gilmerton area.

A 9-year-old boy was cycling when he was struck by a dark-coloured hatchback-style car driving.

The car may have been a black Ford and was last seen on Hyvot Mill Drive.

The boy sustained minor injuries but did not require medical treatment.

PC Ross Halliday of Edinburgh’s Road Policing Unit said: “Thankfully, the boy only sustained minor injuries but the driver failed to stop at the scene and we are eager to trace him.

“We’d ask anyone who may have witnessed this collision, saw the car in the area or recognises its description to get in touch.
