Wendy Townsley, 37, of Preston Road, Prestonpans, who was a provisional licence holder and not accompanied by a qualified driver at the time of the incident on February 10, was also fined £500 at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

She had pleaded guilty to charges of driving without due care and attention, not being with a qualified driver and having no insurance.

Sheriff Liddle told Townsley: “You had no business being behind the wheel of a car at all. For someone like you, hoping to be teaching children, you could have killed the boy.”
