Broken down Edinburgh to Glasgow train causes delays

A broken down train has caused commuter mayhem this morning.

The 0655 Edinburgh to Glasgow Central came to a stand at Haymarket following a brake fault.

The faulty train was moved from the tracks at 0836.

ScotRail has requested replacement buses to operate between Edinburgh and Bathgate.

Valid train tickets are also being accepted on Lothian buses between:

Edinburgh and Haymarket / Edinburgh Park / Newcraighall / Brunstane / Eskbank / Newtongrange / Gorebridge and on First Bus services between Glasgow Queen Street and Bishopbriggs / Lenzie and between Stirling and Larbert / Camelon / Falkirk / Polmont / Linlithgow.

Rail tickets are also currently being accepted on Edinburgh trams between Edinburgh Park and St Andrew Square (Waverley).

To keep people moving, ScotRail has continued to operate a reduced timetable with Glasgow Queen Street – Edinburgh running every half hour, and Edinburgh – Dunblane services running every hour.

Disruption is expected to continue until approximately 11am.

A ScotRail spokesman said: “Due to a broken down train between Haymarket and Edinburgh, services on all routes through these stations have been subject to disruption.

“The train was on the move by around 0830, however there has been a knock-on delays to services.

“We apologise to customers affected by this incident and ask – if delayed by 30 minutes or more as a result of this problem – to retain their tickets to claim a refund through our Delay Repay scheme.”
