Disruption for motorists as roadworks overrun in centre of Edinburgh
Closures and restrictions last longer than intended
MOTORISTS in the centre of Edinburgh faced rush-hour disruption this morning after overnight roadworks overran.
Scottish Water were carrying out valve repairs in Hanover Street and George Street. Road closures were due to last from 7pm last night until 7am this morning and bus diversions were also in place, but the work could not be completed in time to lift the restrictions on schedule.
The Edinburgh Travel News website reported: "@scottish_water night works on Hanover Street / George Street have overrun this morning. There is still a e/b lane closure on George Street and Hanover Street is closed southbound. We have no further information on how long this will be in place."
The restrictions in force for the roadworks included Hanover Street closed southbound between Thistle Street and George Street and George Street closed eastbound from Hanover Street to St Andrew Square, with lane closures on all approaches to the Queen Street/Hanover Street and George Street/Hanover Street junctions.
