Drivers in Edinburgh have been warned to be aware of localised flooding and surface water on roads around the city after a heavy downpour this evening.

The council-run Edinburgh Travel News twitter account confirmed there is "significant flooding" on the A90 at Cramond Brig, with traffic "very slow" in both directions. But at 7pm tonight they said all lanes are running again.

Citybound queues were all the way back to Dalmeny while westbound traffic was at a standstill from Blackhall. There were also knock-on delays at Clermiston Road North, Quality Street, Whitehouse Road, Maybury Road and Gamekeeper's Road.

In an earlier twitter post this evening the council-run team wrote: "Difficult driving conditions this evening with significant amounts of surface water across all routes and some localised flooding."

There have been several other reports of congestion around the city including at Cameron Toll, as well as a minor collision on Ferry Road leading to lengthy queues.

Traffic Scotland also tweeted about congestion on the City Bypass, westbound between Lasswade and Calder and eastbound from the M8 to Lothianburn, and on approach to the Queensferry Crossing.

There have also been reports of traffic lights failing at York Place and Broughton Street, adding to the difficult driving conditions.

Rain is expected to last until 10pm tonight according to the Met Office website.
