Flybe plane in emergency landing at Edinburgh Airport

Emergency: Firefighters and police were waiting on the return of the Flybe plane at Edinburgh Airport

Emergency services were on standby on the runway after the crew on the Birmingham-bound flight.

The plane, which had departed Edinburgh at around 3.40pm, landed at around 4.10pm.

Police Scotland and firefighters attended the scene as a precaution.

A spokeswoman for Flybe said: “Flybe can confirm that the above flight returned to Edinburgh Airport shortly after take-off after the pilot was alerted to suspected vapour in the cockpit and cabin, the pilot followed all required procedures and the aircraft landed safely without incident.

“The aircraft taxied to stand where all 65 passengers disembarked as normal. As is standard practice under such circumstances, the airport placed its emergency vehicles on standby.

“Passengers are being re-accommodated on the next alternative flight. The airline would like to apologise to passengers for any inconvenience experienced however the safety of its passengers and crew is the airline’s priority at all times.”
