This incredible image shows a car being lifted by a crane from a grass verge next to the M8 in Edinburgh following a crash.

The incident happened at around 7.20pm yesterday (Thursday) between junction two and Hermiston Gait on the eastbound carriageway and is understood to have involved just one vehicle.

One person was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Police were called at 7.20pm on Thursday, January 2 to the eastbound carriageway between Hermiston Gait and junction two of the M8.

"One person was taken to hospital as a precaution.

"The vehicle was recovered and police left the scene by 9.45pm."
