Many readers got in touch with the Edinburgh Evening News to share their experiences of travel to and from the Capital.
Criticism was launched at the lack of carriages, the lack of seats and the poor planning at busy times.
Reacting to our story on our official Facebook page, many readers shared their own experiences of travelling to and from the Edinburgh.
Susan Stevens wrote: “It was exactly the same on the Scotrail Edinburgh to Dunblane train yesterday at 6pm. Lots of people were trying to get home after Christmas shopping, the guard apologised to the passengers saying there should have been 4 carriages but there were only 2”
Linda Gordon added: “The prices that are charged to travel on a train is ridiculous. Everyone should be entitled to a seat and passengers shouldn’t have to stand!”
Kirsty Mullan said: “It’s always been like this; British Rail 30-odd years ago and having to sit on tables, on cases in the vestibule or if my mum was able to get in her booked seat, she’d have me and my wee sister on her lap.
Dot McDonough chimed in saying: “There should be more carriages put on, I came home one Saturday from Haymarket to inverkeithing, and it was quite scary, like a cattle market far too many on the train”
Carol MacLeod suggested: “Perhaps trains should have a minimum standard capacity. Things like this just shouldn’t happen to the likes of you and I. We pay top whack for train tickets, we deserve to be treated with respect. Shame on these rail companies.
Chris Dow told of his travel woes stating: “Was on the train to Edinburgh yesterday. Sardines. This needs sorted”
Bobby Bowie summed up the thoughts of many of our readers saying: “The train service in this country is a disgrace.”
