Power restored after outage hits 3,000 Edinburgh homes and hospital across 4 city postcodes

Engineers say power to the north and east of Edinburgh has been restored after reports of widespread outages in four postcodes.

Scottish Power Energy Networks have confirmed power is back on in the EH6, EH7, EH15 and EH16 areas.

That includes Trinity, Newhaven, Portobello, Musselburgh, Liberton, Niddrie, Craigmillar, Restalrig, Lochend and Abbeyhill.

The Edinburgh Royal Infirmary was affected by the outage but as of an hour ago supply had been partially restored to the hopsital.

The fire brigade were called out to assist at a substation in Joppa. It took around 90 minutes to restore supply.

Emergency response teams

He added: "We did not know in advance there would be a power cut, and became aware of this at 4.11pm.

"Our control centre will attempt to reset the network remotely to restore power in stages, and our emergency response team are on their way to site to investigate the cause of the fault.

"Our team will work to get your power back on as quickly and as safely as possible by 6.15pm.

"We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
