9 Edinburgh and Lothian roads which have seen the biggest drop in emissions since lockdown

When Scotland locked down in an effort to stem the spread of coronavirus, and millions of people began working from home, the country saw a marked drop in vehicle emissions.

Data compiled for The Scotsman by Dr David Carslaw, of Ricardo Energy & Environment, shows the percentage drops in NO2 (Nitrogen Dioxide) emissions compared to predicted levels without the impact of Covid-19, for various streets and areas across the nation.

These are the nine streets in Edinburgh and the Lothians on the list which have seen the largest estimated drop in NO2, which is emitted by vehicle exhausts and can irrirate the respiratory system, particularly in people with conditions like asthma.
