Both lanes reopen on the M8 near Bathgate after ‘massive’ pothole caused chaos this morning

Both lanes have now reopened on the eastbound motorway near Bathgate after a ‘massive pothole’ caused chaos this morning damaging at least 17 cars before the road was closed.

Traffic Scotland reported this morning, February, 4, at around 10am, that there was a ‘pothole hazard’ affecting the M8 east bound near Bathgate at Junction 3 A.

While the road was closed traffic was diverted by Police Scotland via the exit and entry slips at Junction 3A.

According to Traffic Scotland, the ‘massive’ pothole lay in lane two of the motorway.

Joanna Cochrane of Forth One reported that there were around 17 vehicles on the hard shoulder after hitting the pothole.

At 11.30am, Traffic Scotland confirmed that lane one on this section of the M8 had reopened however, lane two remained closed to allow repairs to set.

A spokesperson for BEAR Scotland said: “Our teams were on-site today, along with Police Scotland, to address the defect on the stretch of M8 near Bathgate. A repair was

undertaken this morning at 11:30am and the road has now fully reopened.
