Chaos as train leaves tracks

Rail travellers between Edinburgh and Aberdeen faced disruption today after a derailment.

Passengers had to be evacuated after the front wheels of the 8.04am CrossCountry Trains service from Edinburgh came off the tracks at Inverkeilor, between Arbroath and Montrose in Angus, yesterday morning.

The CrossCountry train derailed but remained upright. Thirty-eight people were on board, although no-one was thought to have been injured.

An investigation will be carried out to establish what happened.

The knock-on impact forced First ScotRail to put on alternative transport for some passengers.

The operator has warned passengers to leave extra time for their journeys. They are also being urged to check the website at www.scotrail.co.uk for updates.
