East Lothian mum brands Ryanair flight from Tenerife to Edinburgh 'disgusting' and 'filthy'

An East Lothian mum has spoken of her disgust after her Ryanair plane from Spain back to the UK was left uncleaned from a previous flight.

Jenna Campbell was horrified to see her seat and fold-down tables covered from the previous passengers crumbs and mess as she travelled home from a sunshine break in Tenerife with her partner and two young kids.

And she was flabbergasted when flight attendants she raised her hygiene concerns with acknowledged there was a problem, but simply told her to complain when she got home.

The 33-year-old hairdresser from Whitecraig said she immediately realised there was a problem when the family boarded the plane at Tenerife South airport on Friday evening to return to Edinburgh.

She said: "Upon boarding, the first thing we noticed was how filthy the plane was.

"The carpet was littered with crumbs and food, the pull down trays were disgusting. Clearly the plane had not been cleaned since the last passengers left.

"We are fighting a global virus, everyone on the flight was made to wear a mask. there is absolutely no point in this if the plane is not being sanitised between flights."

Photos Ms Campbell took on her phone show clearly unclean tables and crumb-littered seat spaces.

And she said that when she pointed out her fears to cabin crew she was told by a member of staff: 'I know, it's terrible..they should be cleaning the plane in between but they don't'

Ms Campbell added: "That really didn't help as I was sat on a germ-ridden seat for five hours with my two kids.

"It was an absolute joke, you've to wear a mask the whole flight, why? Tell me what the point In that is?

"I know it is Ryanair and I wasn't expecting the world, but clean seats would have been the least I would have asked for.

"All the airlines are asking people to wear masks, and we are reading about how there has been another surge in cases in Spain, so you wonder what they are playing at."

"Everyone else is doing their bit, why not them?"

Travellers returning from Spain after midnight on Saturday have been advised they will have to self-isolate amid an upsurge in Covid infection rates in some part of the country.

In addition, the Foreign Office says mainland Spain poses “an unacceptably high risk for British travellers,” and now advises against all non-essential travel there – but not the Balearic and Canary Islands.

Ryanair has been contacted for a comment.
