Edinburgh Airport warns Flybe passengers to stay away after airline collapses

The airline partly blamed coronavirus for its downfall.

Edinburgh Airport has warned passengers travelling with Flybe to stay away after the airline went into administration.

Passengers have been advised not to come to the airport as their Flybe flight won’t be running.

“We regret to inform passengers that Flybe has entered administration. All flights are cancelled,” the airport wrote on Twitter.

The airline has gone into administration.

“Please do not come to the airport as your Flybe flight will not be operating.”

More than 30 Flybe flights have been cancelled out of the airport today, including flights to Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham, Belfast and London City Airport.

Flybe announced in the early hours of this morning that it had ceased trading with immediate effect.

Europe’s largest regional airline, it nearly collapsed in January and has continued to lose money since then.

Representatives said that a drop in demand over coronavirus had ‘made a difficult situation worse’.

Chief Executive Mark Anderson added that the company had made ‘every possible effort’ to avoid collapse.

UK Civil Aviation Authority chief Richard Moriarty said: "This is a sad day for UK aviation and we know that Flybe's decision to stop trading will be very distressing for all of its employees and customers.
