One local described the whole incident as “carnage”. No one was injured in either crash.

Dean Loughton who lives nearby told the Edinburgh Evening News: “It was crazy it was like something out a computer game I was very shaken up as the car failed to stop the first time.”

Dean who has lived in the area for eight years said: “I’ve never known anything like this to happen before. It’s a narrow road but I’ve not seen anything like this.”

“The road was closed for around two hours to arrange for the recovery of the vehicles.”

The Wardie Bay Resident Association blamed the havoc on the increasing developments centred on Granton Harbour.

Wardie Bay Residents tweeted: “What do you get when you’ve a long-established residential community on one side of the road, and a new promenade/cyclway and popular beach on the other side?

"And through the middle, ever increasing traffic volumes with absolutely no attempt to limit speed”
