Video footage taken around 3pm shows vehicles struggling to pass through the water on Slateford Road, close to the Asda Chesser supermarket - and one car can be seen pulled over with its hazard lights flashing.

Edinburgh resident Kayleigh Johnstone, who took the video, said: "I have never seen the floodwater that bad there before. We were in a van and it didn't feel too bad but it might have been a bit scary for people in cars."

Others have posted online to say police are now there and that traffic is building up, and have urged drivers to avoid the area.

Rain has been pouring down most of the day and the Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ warning for Edinburgh, which will be in place from 1pm to 9pm on Tuesday. They have warned that heavy rain may bring further disruption.
