Edinburgh weather: thunderstorm causes travel disruption across city

Edinburgh’s transport links have been badly impacted by heavy rainfall during thunderstorms last night.

ScotRail has announced almost 200 cancellations to their services this morning, including express trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow, due to flooding and landslips on the line.

British Transport Police, which patrols Scotland’s rail network, shared a photo of a completely flooded track at Perth Station, urging passengers to be wary of delays after “significant disruption”.

Edinburgh train delays

Several services in and out of Edinburgh have been subject to delays due to damage and flooding from the storm.

ScotRail:

Trains from Edinburgh to Dunblane will be delayed until 12pm due to damage to overhead electrical wires between Stirling and Dunblane.

The Edinburgh to Glasgow service via Shotts has been disrupted due to heavy flooding on the line at Hartwood.

Trains between Edinburgh and Aberdeen and Edinburgh and Inverness have been suspended due to flooding on the line.

Passengers on trains from Edinburgh to Glenrothes via Dunfermline (as well as via Kirkaldy) will have to take a rail replacement bus service. ScotRail tickets will be accepted with Stagecoach.

LNER trains:

LNER says its services to and from Inverness and Aberdeen are currently suspended due to heavy flooding in the region.

Its services between Aberdeen and London King’s Cross will start at Edinburgh Waverley.

Passengers from Aberdeen will be given a bus replacement service to Edinburgh.
