Police were called to the crash, close to the tram stop on York Place, at about 8:35am.

A spokesman for the force said one person was treated by Scottish Ambulance Service staff at the scene for "minor injuries."

The video was taken by a passenger called Matt who was sitting on board the No.16 double-decker Lothian bus involved in the collision. It shows damage to the windscreen of a National Express bus which had come to rest directly behind the other vehicle.

Matt, who lives in Leith, can also be heard slowly saying the word "Jesus" as he steps off the bus and films the scene.

The 24-year-old described it as a "pretty harsh start to the day."

Speaking to the Evening News on Wednesday, he said he had been sitting on the bottom deck of the bus when he heard a "big bang" which jolted him off his seat.

He said: "We just stopped at a red light and the National Express just hit us.

"Everyone was quite shocked and surprised. There were no people screaming or crying or anything, people were more worried they would be late for work.

"The impact of the collision was strong. I was sitting on one of the side chairs near the space for wheelchair users and had a bit of a neck whip.

"Other people almost jumped off their seats and I almost jumped off the seat into the guy next to me."

Afterwards. Matt said the driver escorted everybody off the bus.

He added: "I think the video speaks for itself."
