Edinburgh’s bike hire scheme will run on a reduced service from today due to the coronavirus, the company announced in an email to customers.

JustEat Bikes, operated by Serco on behalf of Edinburgh City Council, said it would focus its efforts on hire points close to hospitals and other sites with key workers.

In the email, the company said: “We want to thank our customers for their cooperation and understanding as we navigate through this period of uncertainty.“As of Wednesday 25th March, we will focus our efforts on cycle hire points that are used by key workers, including the city’s largest hospitals.

“These stations have been expanded (virtually) to allow for increased usership.

“As a result, we will operate a reduced service across the rest of the scheme; we will have fewer bikes and a reduced customer service support function (contact will now be exclusively via the Just Eat Cycles App) – this will service demand.

“This situation remains dynamic and we encourage our customers to monitor our social channels for future updates.

“Again, we want to wish all of our customers well and thank them for their patience throughout these challenging times.”
