Kirknewton park and ride facility proposals expected next year

Two years after they were first rejected, fresh new proposals for a park and ride facility in Kirknewton are expected in 2021.

Plans to build a 300 space carpark were knocked back by West Lothian Council in February 2019. Stirling Developments, one of the housebuilders in the Calderwood Core Development Area produced a plan showing access from Station Road, just beyond the level crossing into a site sitting to the north of the station.

Stirling appealed that rejection but it was upheld by the Scottish government.

New train services have been introduced on the mainline which runs south from Edinburgh and also has a new rail connection through to Glasgow.

Head of Planning Craig McCorriston told a meeting he had no specific time-frame but he expected revised proposals for Kirknewton would be lodged next year.

“The developer is working on a revised scheme and we are expecting an application shortly,” he added.
