Portobello High Street: Travel disruption after ‘serious collision’ involving cyclist and lorry

Police have shut Sir Harry Lauder Road in both directions at the junction with Portobello High Street and Seafield Road.

It means drivers face heavy traffic congestion in the area, with lengthy tailbacks on the Southbound side of Portobello Road and slow-moving traffic at its junction with Brighton Place.

The Southbound carriageway of Seafield Road is also experiencing heavy traffic, with cars queued up from the Sir Harry Lauder Road junction all the way back to the Seafield Crematorium.

There are long delays on Inchview Terrace in both directions all the way to Piershill, with nearby roads impacted too.

Sir Harry Lauder Road is closed in both directions between the junction with Portobello Road and Rosefield Park, where long delays are also reported.

Bus route diversions

Lothian Buses have updated customers on diversions around the crash site on Portobello Road.

The company said the 21, 42, and 49 services would be unable to serve Portobello High Street, Brighton Place and part of Duddingston Road and are instead diverted via Portobello Road, Northfield Broadway and Mountcastle Drive North in both directions until further notice.

Meanwhile the 26, 45, 124 and X26 services are unable to serve part of Portobello Road, Portobello High Street, Joppa Road and Musselburgh Road and are instead diverted via Northfield Broadway, Mountcastle Drive South and Milton Road in both directions until further notice.

It added that: “Due to increased traffic on this diversion buses are also subject to delays.”
