Ryanair revives axed Edinburgh-Stansted route for student Christmas travel

Budget carrier Ryanair is to resume flying between Edinburgh and London from December 4 to January 8 to help students travel home for Christmas.

The route, withdrawn in October last year, will operate twice a week.

It said the move followed the UK Government’s announcement of a “travel window” permitting such journeys.

Universities have been asked to switch to online teaching to enable students to travel home between Dec 3 and 9.

Ryanair spokeswoman Alejandra Ruiz said: “We welcome this ‘travel window’ guidance which allows students the opportunity to fly home to their families and friends, in advance of the busy Christmas travel rush.”

An Edinburgh Airport spokesman said:: “We want to help people get home for Christmas, so additional flights and routes will certainly help.

“The biggest Christmas gift we can hope for is the introduction of testing at the border to replace the hammer blow of quarantine, and help rather than hinder aviation and the other industries which rely on it.”
