Sightings of RAF planes were recorded last night over Edinburgh.

Military planes have been spotted flying over the city and other areas of the Central Belt a couple of times this week.

A spokesman for RAF station Brize Norton reassured the planes were flying for training purposes.

In a statement on Twitter yesterday he said: “This evening (May 6), our C-130J Hercules aircraft will be operating in the vicinity of Edinburgh, whilst engaged in essential training.

“These are necessary, routine, flights and not connected with RAF support to the UK's fight against coronavirus.”

The military has supported Scotland’s efforts to battle coronavirus with increased air and logistical support since lockdown began.

This air support has been responding to requests for assistance from NHS boards and trusts across Scotland and Northern England.
