Traffic disruption after tractor overturns spilling potatoes all over East Lothian road

The sheer quantity of tatties spilled over the road caused disruption to travel in the area.

A busy road was blocked after a tractor overturned spilling thousands of potatoes over the A1 in East Lothian.

The unfortunate accident happened near the Thistly Cross roundabout at about 8am this morning, Wednesday, September 16.

Traffic watchdog Traffic Scotland alerted motorists to the tattie spill via Twitter.

In a message online a spokeswoman said: “A1 southbound at the Thistly Cross Roundabout – overturned tractor and potatoes on the road.”

The potatoes have now been cleared and traffic in the area should be running as normal.

Traffic Scotland posted an update saying: “A1 southbound after Haddington – the potatoes have been peeled from the road and all lanes are running.”

The accident happened during rush hour and traffic was diverted via the A199 while officers dealt with the incident.

It is understood no one was injured in the incident.
