Traffic moving slowly as temperatures dip below freezing in Edinburgh and the Lothians

Drivers have been warned to allow extra time for the commute this morning as temperatures dip below zero in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Traffic is so far moving slowly in several areas.

The M90 around the Queensferry Crossing into Edinburgh is particularly congested.

Drivers on the Edinburgh City Bypass are facing delays around Straiton and Dreghorn, and the M8 is busy around Junction 2 and Junction 3.

The M9 is also congested southbound at Junction 3.

Traffic Scotland issued a warning for Edinburgh and the Lothians this morning: "Road users are advised to drive with care due to low temperatures and the risk of ice currently affecting driving conditions on many roads."

Gritters were sent out in force during the night to prepare the roads, and Amey South East Trunk Roads, responsible for gritters in the area, has advised drivers to take extra care.

Temperatures are currently at -1 degree Celcius in Edinburgh and areas of East Lothiaan, set to rise above zero around 9am.

West Lothian is slightly colder, with Livingston and the airport at -2 degrees Celcius.

There is a Met Office yellow weather warning in place for snow and wind on Monday and Tuesday.
