Trams to Newhaven: Incredible drone footage shows progress of Edinburgh trams
Trams to Newhaven has released some amazing drone footage which shows a birds-eye view of the progress of the £207 million project.
The new video was taken in April 2021 and lasts just over two minutes, showing “scenes from the sky” as construction work – which started in 2019 – continues in Edinburgh.
A significant amount of track has now been laid and two tram stops are under construction despite delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Short notes are included in the video to highlight to the viewer progress in specific areas, such as “Tram stop under construction” 28 seconds as the drone is flying over Ocean Terminal.
"This fantastic video shows the scale of the project, and the progress made toward its completion, before carrying its first passengers in spring 2023.”
Costing £207.3m, the council is aiming to finish the project by early 2023.
Trams to Newhaven will add 2.91 miles of track in both directions, connecting Leith and Newhaven to the current end of the Edinburgh tram line at York Place with eight new stops.
Since the video was filmed further progress has been made and more track has been laid on Ocean Way at Stevedore Place.
