Two early-morning accidents on Scotland’s M8 motorway

Two separate early-morning accidents on the M8 have caused lanes to be closed, according to Traffic Scotland.

At around 6:20am this morning, an incident at junction 22 of the motorway, near to Plantation Park in Glasgow, led to the closure of one westbound lane.

But then, at 6:33am, a second accident at the intersection of the M8 and the M74 caused a further lane closure.

Just a few hundred metres away from the first, the second accident has not yet been cleared, according to Traffic Scotland.

“Road users should use caution and reduce speed on the M8 Westbound at Junction 22 (Plantation),” Traffic Scotland advised, “due to a road traffic incident on the hard shoulder.”

The first closure at junction 22 was lifted just before 6:40am.

Lockdown rules enforced by the Scottish government urge people only to travel for essential reasons. People can now travel up to five miles to exercise, and can meet another household outdoors – as long as the gathering is no larger than eight people.
