Woman on the tracks shuts down railway line through Lothians between Dunbar and Drem

A trespasser on the tracks closed down a Lothians railway line this afternoon.

The alarm was raised shortly after 3.30pm today after concerns for a woman who was seen on the tracks between Dunbar and Drem, prompting ScotRail to halt services on the line.

However the rail operator later released a brief statement via social media saying that the issue had been dealt with and a person had been taken to safety.

It said: “Following trespassers on the railway earlier today between Dunbar and Drem, officers have attended and the person has now been taken to a place of safety.

"All lines have now reopened.”

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “British Transport Police were called to the line near Dunbar at around 3.30pm today, following reports of concern for the welfare of a woman on the tracks.

"Officers attended and the woman was taken to a place of safety.”
