Treasure hunt goes hi-tech

A HI-tech treasure hunt is to be launched in the Capital, offering the chance to explore its history by geocaching.

The sport involves using handheld GPS systems to hunt for hidden boxes called geocaches, which contain a log book and small, collectible items. Participants can then share their experiences online.

The Glenlivet Legacy Trail will appear on www.geocaching.com from Friday, allowing participants to follow in pursuit of famous historical characters, including Glenlivet’s founder, George Smith. It aims to celebrate some of the Capital’s founding fathers. It is being launched to tie in with the festival season and it is hoped it will leave a permanent trail.
