Tributes paid to 16-year-old cyclist killed in road traffic collision

Harley Smith, a former TS Forth sea cadet – based at Grangemouth docks – died at the scene of the incident which happened just before 9pm on Friday on the A803 Polmont Road at the junction with Dundas Road in Laurieston, Falkirk.
In an online tribute the Grangemouth Sea Cadets stated: “It is with a heavy heart I am bringing you the tragic news one of our former cadets, Harley Smith, was involved in a collision with a car while on his bike and sadly lost his life.
“He was only 16. Not all of you will have know Harley but for those who did they will know he was a very quiet, unassuming and dedicated cadet. He always gave his all and had such a bright future ahead of him.
“We have lost one of our own, who was a part of the TS Forth family. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family at this incredibly difficult time.”
Emergency services and collision investigators were in attendance at the scene and the road was closed overnight.
Sergeant David Marr, of the road police unit, said: “Our enquiries into the cause of the collision continue and I would ask anyone who saw what happened to come forward.”
