UK news: Roof collapse miner safe

A miner has been rescued from a pit in the Neath Valley after he became trapped under rubble following a small roof collapse.

He was brought to the surface at Unity Mine in Cwmgwrach near Glynneath by colleagues and the Mines Rescue Team. The man, 48, is in hospital, where his condition is not thought to be serious.

Bookseller had video of Bigley beheading

A Birmingham bookseller accused of “priming people for terrorism” had video footage of British hostage Ken Bigley being beheaded, a jury was told.

Ahmed Faraz has been charged with 30 counts of possessing and distributing extremist material intended to radicalise Muslims.

Queen to become great grandmother again

The Queen is to become a great-grandmother for a second time.

Peter Phillips, the Queen’s eldest grandson, and his Canadian wife Autumn are expecting their second child in March. Mr Phillips’ mother, the Princess Royal, will become a grandmother for the second time.

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace said the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were “delighted” at the news. Mr and Mrs Phillips already have a daughter, Savannah.

Teen in identity theft charge

A Lincolnshire teenager accused of stealing the identity of glamour model Katie Price has appeared in court.

Kerry Marshall, 18, from Eastgate in Sleaford, faces three offences of fraud by false representation. Miss Price, formerly known as Jordan, had cash stolen from her bank account.

Wasps kill 74-year-old

A 74-year-old grandmother died after suffering an allergic reaction when she was stung by a swarm of wasps in Essex.

Janette Duncan and her husband, George, were surrounded by the insects after a nest was disturbed near a pavement in Galleywood, near Chelmsford. Mr Duncan collapsed and Mrs Duncan rushed to help him, but then collapsed, the Essex inquest heard.

Bristol: A barber who shaved the word “fool” into the back of the head of a man with learning difficulties has been found guilty of common assault. Michael Campbell, 35, of Jam Cuts in Stapleton Road, Bristol, had been asked by Michael Ricketts, 49, to shave a pattern, but instead Campbell cut the word “fool” with a smiley face into his hair.

Nottingham: A man has been charged with seven offences after a chemical substance was found at a flat in Nottingham. A controlled explosion took place after the substance was found at a property in Central Avenue, Mapperley.
