Unison steps up campaign against privatisation plans

UNISON is to hold a series of meetings and rallies this month in the run up to Edinburgh City Council’s decision on privatising community services.

The union will hold a discussion tomorrow at 11am on The Mound then work its way around the city centre leafleting shoppers.

The union, of which a large number of council workers are members, will also hold a debate on Monday, October 24 at 7pm at Edinburgh University’s Appleton Tower. Representatives from the council will be taking part in a public debate with anti-privatisation campaigners ahead of the decision on whether to hire private firms to run services such as refuse collection.
