Universities plan strike

NINE of Scotland’s biggest universities – including Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt – are to take part in a “sustained campaign of industrial action”.

Members of the University and College Union (UCU) in the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) have voted in a UK-wide ballot in protest at the imposition of changes to their pensions.

The action is likely to begin in mid-October and UCU warned that it will continue until there is a breakthrough.
