'Celebratory' lighting has been switched on inside a lift in one of the University of Edinburgh's buildings - to mark the return to service of the other lift.

A video posted on the School of Social and Political Science Edinburgh twitter page shows the flashing disco style roof lights which change colour between red, green, blue, yellow and purple.

In the background of the video, the song Disco Inferno by The Trammps plays.

A video of the lift was requested by a Twitter user after seeing an uploaded photograph of a tongue-in-cheek notice on display in the building.

The humorous sign posted by the university reads: "In order to mark the return to service of its running mate Lift #2, the lighting in Lift#1 has been set to 'celebration mode."

Sharing the image, Andy Scott, tweeted: "Now I just feel bad for not having done more to reach out and support lift #1 during what must have been four very lonely and difficult months."

Another user, Phil Syrpis, wrote: "Hang on a minute. There's 'celebration mode' lighting in lifts? Where? Why? Still, glad to see that they'll be swapping storeys again, just like in the old days."
