Update: City trams could be halted into Friday after incident

Disruption on Edinburgh's trams could continue into Friday after cabling over the network was snapped by a passing works vehicle.

Twitter user @RetroSchott snapped a few images of the missing cable

Cables above the stop on York Place came apart from the supporting pylons after a collision with a construction vehicle shortly after 4:20pm on Thursday evening, bringing services to a dead halt.

On Thursday night services were only operating to and from Edinburgh Airport and Murrayfield Stadium.

And now Edinburgh Trams bosses say the disruption could continue into Friday as engineers work to try and fix the problem.

A spokesperson from Edinburgh Trams said: “We can confirm that part route running to and from Edinburgh Airport and West End (Shandwick Place) will continue until the end of service tonight (Thursday, 10 May).

“A ticket acceptance agreement is in place with Lothian Buses to allow customers to complete their journeys.

“Our Engineers are working tirelessly to repair the damage caused to the overhead line by a construction vehicle and an update on tomorrow’s service (Friday, 11 May) will be made at 4am.

“We’d like to thank our customers for their patience and urge them to check our website or follow us on Twitter for service updates.”
