A MAN has been charged after an assault involving a knife which closed off Wardieburn Street East.

Two men were detained on Wednesday afternoon as police said a woman remained in hospital.

A 31-year-old man was later charged with serious assault and is due to appear in court on Thursday.

Witnesses said they had seen a man “covered in blood” and another man being taken away by ambulance staff on a stretcher.

Six forensics officers could earlier be seen putting markers down beside a car on Wardieburn Street East, and also examining a stairwell at adjacent Wardieburn Place East.

A police spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 31-year-old man has been charged with serious assault following an incident in Wardieburn Street East in the early hours of this morning.

“He is due to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow.”
