Waste plant picks named

BIDDERS have been shortlisted to take part in the Capital’s Zero Waste initiative.

Four firms – FCC Medio Ambiente SA, Urbaser, Veolia ES Aurora Ltd and Viridor Waste Management Services Ltd – are in the running to deliver a treatment service in Edinburgh and Midlothian that will separate recyclable materials from waste and produce energy from the remainder.

The new facility – to be based at Millerhill in Midlothian – is part of a programme that aims to stop all recyclable and biodegradable waste from going to landfill by 2017.

Gordon Pollock, project director for Zero Waste, said: “We are delighted to move to the next stage of the procurement process for state-of-the-art residual waste treatment facilities.”
