While most of us were tucked up in bed praying for another snow day, The Scotsman’s Roger Cox battled through sub-zero temperatures and blizzard conditions to get to Arthur’s Seat and take full advantage of the untouched snow.

The extraordinary GoPro footage shows seasoned snowboarded Roger hurtling down the hill at impressive speed, with views of the capital in the background.

After sharing the video on Twitter, Roger told the Scotsman: “I had checked the forecast so I knew the snow was coming. I got up at 5.45am and arrived there at 6.30am before it got light. I figured it would be quiet and I wanted to get as many runs in as possible.”

He continued: “It was a bit challenging at first, with shrubbery and stocks getting in the way. We were exposed to the wind which scoured runs, but we were relieved to find a steep part to ride down.”

Many people have been unable to travel in and around the Central Belt due to the adverse weather conditions and more snow is to continue to blanket large parts of the country in the next 24 hours.

Schools are to remain closed as a result of the conditions and an amber weather warning is in place until Friday morning.
