Water works almost over

THE MASSIVE project to build a new water treatment works to supply Edinburgh is almost complete.

The new Glencorse plant is set to take over responsibility for water from the Fairmilehead and Alnwickhill facilities in the coming weeks.

Senior project manager Kenny Naylor said that a test programme would continue until next month when the works will be fully operational.

The £130 million development has taken three years to complete and will supply Edinburgh and parts of Midlothian. The site is being carefully landscaped to blend in with the surroundings.

Mr Naylor said: “The tourists in the Pentlands will never be aware of (the plant) because all the tanks have been buried and covered with grass.”
