Speaking to Edinburgh Evening News, Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst suggested that Tuesday will get off to a pleasant start.

He said: “It’s going to be a lovely sunny cold day, but by the evening temperatures could be around about 1 degree celsius.”

According to Dewhurst there’s “a chance” of mist and fog setting in later in the evening, but there should be largely clear spells throughout the evening, with slightly more cloud around midnight.

The days leading up to New Year’s Day have been on the windy side, but Dewhurst has suggested that wind speeds will be no higher than “5 to 10 mph with the occasional gust of 15 to 20 mph”.

Most importantly of all, conditions should stay dry, with the Met Office App suggesting there’s a less than five percent chance of precipitation.

New Year’s Day should see “some bright spells” in the capital according to the Met Office – ideal for a brisk New Year’s Day walk.
